Chris's guide to UK 8 Ball cueing.
This is a general guide to cueing a shot at UK 8 Ball.
This is from personal
trial and error which has lead to consistent winning results in competitive
play.
There maybe differences in cue from the guide. The average cue is 57" long with
a 9.5 - 10mm tip. I prefer 55" with a 8.5mm tip which makes life a bit more difficult
but once mastered adds significantly to accuracy.
- Pre check - see the angle from object ball to the pocket and memorise
the point of contact. Keep this in mind when you move back to the cue ball.
- Stand back in line with the shot and visualise cue ball to object ball
contact.
- Stance - (right handed) right foot in line with the shot, leg kept straight.
Left foot forward and bent.
- Bend over and feel comfortable and steady.
- Cue - Grip cue (55" - 8.5mm Elkmaster tip) around 2 - 3" from
the butt to allow for compact cue action. Grip on the cue should be fairly
loose so you can feel the weight of the shot. Bridge over the cue should
be no more than 4 - 6" keeping
the whole cue action compact. Bridge hand should be kept flat on the table,
fingers spread for a solid bridge.
- Align the cue to the cue ball without feathering, get the cue as close
as possible, keep steady and fine tune the alignment. Keep the cue parallel
to the floor. Only move the forearm to the elbow when cueing, the wrist and
rest of the arm / body should be straight and still. Once alignment is set
feather the cue slightly keeping everything compact.
- Keep the head still. Deliver the cue in a straight line and follow through
the ball for a clean strike.
